Metal seal type, Ultra High Vacuum fittings.  Our UHV fittings are part of the family of Ultra-High vacuum components that compress a copper gasket between two stainless steel flanges to create a vacuum tight seal. All manufacturers of these fittings are compatible with one another! If you are building or modifying a vacuum system, consider the bolt hole orientation and the position you want other components to be mounted.  If you are not sure use one or more rotatable flanges to assure the flexibility you may require.  Do not tighten the rotatable flange to make your vacuum seal until you have the non-rotatable flange bolt hole alignment you require.  You can install the copper gaskets and “snug” the bolts to maintain positions and then start at one point and tighten each UHV connection so the flange faces are in contact with each other.  Take care not to miss a connection and you should have a system that has no leaks greater than 1x10¯9 ATM. cc/sec. for helium and will remain leak tight from -200ºC through + 450ºC the first try.  BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE KNIFE EDGE seal surfaces, a scratch will almost always make a leak!
